My 2015 heavy-duty real leather jacket has gone through a few experiments: I still cannot get rid of the moulds because they already ate away the first layer of the leather but I now found the perfect solution to preserve the leather: your common fabric conditioner, preferably the more expensive one. I’ve done this technique more than 20 times and the leather becomes as soft as it gets with a lustre as if the leather jacket was just purchased yesterday. The fabric conditioner is poured generously (direct from the container) onto the leather as well as polyester lining, all the pockets, inner sleeves. I use my bare palms and ensure it soaks well into the inner lining underneath killing off any pungent smell of an old leather jacket that got soaked wet a few times from Malaysian pouring rain. Left hanging indoor, the fabric conditioner dries up quickly as it soaks through. In fact, the more it soaks especially inside the leather jacket, the better. Now whenever, I wear the leather jacket, it oozes the strong fragrance of the fabric conditioner and when it gets dry, I simply give it another fabric conditioner touch-up.
