Hey guys, just writing this to shed some info on how to do some of the mods you might be interested in that I've mostly figured out since i couldn't find anything solid online.
Currently the things I've done (not just mods):
- Slash cut mufflers bought from the hunter website through a dealer fitted on my Hunter Spyder 250cc EFI and they required the stock mufflers to be cut off so the slip on slash cuts can go on. This was my most costly mod so far but worth it to me as the sound is a hell of a lot better than stock but didn't notice a performance increase.
- Rear sprocket also bought from hunter website through dealer fitted for more power on freeway speeds and can confirm they helped however being a 250 it still doesn't seem to like high speeds
- Clutch and break lever bought from China (fair quality for a low price of $50 I think it was for the pair) due to chrome flaking and damage to break lever. Cosmetic. Size is 7/8".
- Clone Kuryakyn grips also from China (very good for $30), tried to get fitted by a service centre but they didn't want to put on grips that glue on and they said the throttle had a different connection to my bike (turns out they didn't actually check, they just said that to charge me for time they didn't want to work as a few months later I tried it myself and its the same as stock connection and working perfectly.) As for the left hand side i put some plumbing tape on it to make a tighter fit and its staying on better than all the glue I've tried before. Note the size you need to get is 7/8" on the stock handlebars.
- Smoked indicators bought from China with 21W bulbs to be extra bright through the smoked lenses. Now, the higher wattage bulbs will draw too much power for the stock relay so you will need to change it. The old relay in mine was 2 pin and I made the mistake of trying out a 3 pin because the connection had 3 pins. Check your old relay and buy a new one to suit! This mistake made me blow a fuse and there are about 4 or so fuses in the bike. They are all under the seat and 3 or so are blade fuses and one is a filament fuse. One of the hunter dealers thought the bike couldn't handle the higher wattage bulbs but it is working 100% with the relay change.
- Tiny K&N filter on the engine breather instead of the hose running to the air box (also oil filter to my understanding) This was purely cosmetic for me but well worth $16 from SuperCheapAuto.
- Changed coolant as I needed a top up but didn't know what was in there before, used Nulon blue which is borate, phosphate and silicate free so should be suitable. To drain old coolant, remove the mudguard bit under the radiator and unplug the hose at the bottom of the bottle there, then you can remove the radiator hose connecting to engine by the bolt that holds it as the hose itself will be difficult to remove but be ready for a mess as it will all splash out.
- Skeleton hand mirrors as my old ones were mismatching and worn out. Also from China and very cheap but not great quality.
- Put in a pod filter instead of air box to make it sit under the tank. There are many pictures of this around but nothing describing how to do it. Found a 180 degree silicon/radiator hose to direct the air intake under the tank instead of under the seat. This is what I think I saw done in one of the pictures and I'm pretty sure it'll work. Outer diameter of the intake seems to be 40mm approx.
For a better looking finish than an ugly radiator hose I wrapped it up in black exhaust wrap and im hoping it'll block out some of the heat from engine too.

What I'd like to get but can't afford at the moment:
- Bullet headlight I reckon would look sick on a spyder.
- Custom rear fender that hugs the wheel closer and gives it this sort of look

- Fatter front tyre.
Two other things I want to note
- That side mounted plates are in no way legal for WA according to policeman I've spoken to and DoT centres.
- Having your front mudguard/fender off is illegal in WA and will be pulled over for it and probably a yellow sticker. I've been pulled over for this and had a yellow sticker slapped on to fix this and he thought my smoked indicators were illegal (smoked indicators are not illegal). He also reckons my muffler was too loud and he was shocked by it for a 250 bike (I don't think hes wrong about my mufflers I had it temporarily silenced at an auto-shop before it went to the pits).
I'm in a bit of a sticky situation now, I decided i wanted a plain bike without the stickers to make it look more custom so i used a hair dryer and got some of the stickers off. Unfortunately this left behind a matte black colour under where the sticker was and it wasn't flush with the rest of the paint. Trying to make up my mind whether I'll just leave it that way or take it apart, sand it all down and spray paint it matte black with primer and clear coats ofcourse. Don't want to spend $800+ on a new pro paint job. Suggestions?
