Hi guys bought a new bobber on Tuesday 23rd and have had a few issues with it already. Keen to find out if anyone else has had similar ones. I'm not one too be negative, the bike looks great, rides well and it's had nothing but compliments.
I had done a bit of research before buying, watched youtube videos and read a couple reviews.
Friday 26th
Took the bike on its first proper ride and had done around 30kms when one of the reg plate nut and bolts became loose and fell off which left my plate rubbing on my wheel. The other was just holding on so i tightened it when i stopped then went to Bunnings for some 6mm nylon lock nuts and bolts to secure it to the bike. Another 50kms later and my clutch fell down to the same level as my foot rest and i was having to hook it up with my foot to select gears until i got to a safe place to pull over. Once i stopped and checked i noticed the 6mm nut and bolt that holds the clutch assembly together had lost the nut and the bolt was just hanging on in there. Luckily enough the packet of nylon lock nuts i bought earlier fitted the bolt and i managed to secure it back together so i could continue to ride.
Saturday 27th
I now have around 80kms on the odometer and i'm about to start my ride. At the beginning all was good and i though all the problems were behind me. I was really looking forward to the day ahead and another 45kms later the completely cut out while riding. I had a look at the bike and the bolt that holds the air box to the frame had lost its nut and the hose connecting to it had started to detach from the box which looked like yellow glue had been used to hold in place. I called the dealer (who is a really nice guy) and he suggested it could be an electrical fault that caused it to cut out.
For a bike 4 days old i wouldn't expect all these things to go wrong with it. It's now with the dealer and is apparently going to be fixed.... but i think i was sold a lemon
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm losing faith in this Brand/Company. Not sure whether to get a refund. What would you guys suggest?

G'Day Mate - I've had my Hunter Spyder for over two years now and haven't had a single item come loose or fall off. The bike hasn't missed a beat, it starts first time every time and I've done of rides where I did 400 or 500 klms in a day. When I first bought my bike, I went over it with a fine tooth comb and checked everything. I read all the posted articles on this forum and picked up on which nuts are likely to work themselves loose and I applied lock-tight to those nuts. Just do the same thing when you get it back from your Dealer and I'm confident that everything will be cool. Where are you located buddy.

Hi Tails, my mate has a spyder as well. He has never had issues with his. It was him that recommended them to me. I liked the look of the stripped back bobber so went for that instead.
The fact I have ridden it 3 times has got me wondering. It's still at the dealer so will be a week they will have had it tomorrow. It must be something serious that's happened.
I understand new bikes need ran in and things will happen but nothing like this. The dealer is great and they said they would go over everything as I imagine they don't want to see the bike until it's next service.
Hopefully all will be good when I receive it. I'm just disappointed as you can imagine.
I'm in Melbourne. Where are you located?

Hi Scozie. I have 2013 Bobber. I've had it for two years now and have not had any problems like you mention, though a few nuts did work themselves loose over time. The fuel pump died on me after about 18 months and I've had some overheating issues. I love my Hunter. It is a fun bike. I still own it even after buying another bike 4 times is worth and it will always be special to me. That being said, the build quality is nothing compared to Japanese, American, or European built bikes. From my experience thus far, the engine and gearbox are rock solid, but everything else on the bike is pretty much cheap junk. That's kind of what I expected though going into the brand though so it never bothered me.
It sounds to me like you either got a lemon (it happens), the guys doing the pre-delivery work fucked things up, or both. It might be worth looking into whatever lemon laws are in effect where you live.

Grot, thanks for taking the time to reply to my question
I believe I have been sold a lemon!!!
I emailed Ben and Trudy and they replied with an apologetic email of course and reassured me everything would be taken care of. It has now been in the shop over a week, which is hard to believe since all that happened was nuts came loose and for whatever reason the bike cut out. (Still haven't been told) There must be more to it but i feel like I've been left in the dark about it all and find myself messaging or calling to find out what's going on. Like you mentioned the build and workmanship aren't the greatest. I have balls of solder at the welds where it hasn't been cleaned correctly prior to welding. It really has been made cheap as possible. It's my first ever bike purchase and being lams approved I thought it was the perfect choice. I thought buying a brand new bike was a safer bet than buying a private second hand at the same price but I would probably have been better to go down the private road. Fair enough I have two years warranty but I want to be able to actually ride it and without having negative thoughts at the back of my mind if something else is going to happen. I now have one week rego and insurance paid without having my bike so I'm losing money as I write this. A refund was non negotiable and I asked if the dealer would buy it back but from what they said I believe they don't even stand by the product. I would be happy to take the refund and walk away but that's not going to happen.
I have never written a negative review before which is a shame. Like I mentioned previously in another comment, this company was recommended by a friend but from what I have experienced I won't be recommending them

Update on my bobber.
Received her back, issue was a sensor. Diagnostic machine said it was just a sensor so all 9 had to be individually changed.
The dealer is the only one in Victoria and me being me I was being impatient. The guys worked through it and solved the issue which is something that has never happened before hence the wait plus dealing with their additional work for the week.
Took her a ride, she's sweet as. Rides better than before as it has a highway sprocket fitted as well. I would get this put on if buying as it doesn't come standard. Gives the freeway rides a better feel.
Safe riding guys

Glad you had a positive outcome mate. I have had a couple of small dramas with my Bobber, and so far the dealer has been willing to help without fuss...
I love the little bike, it is a nice ride, the only downers are price point related, happy riding mate

Hi Scozie,
Ive had numerous issues electrically. Mainly due to it being a ridged frame and I push it to the extremes (plus the roads around here are riddled with pot holes).
I found the BEST thing I did to stop the bike cutting out was make up a bracket to stop the battery bouncing around in the battery box (and knocking and cross wiring other wires) and also neaten up the wiring a little bit while I was there. The bracket is literally L shaped and gets bolted to the outside of the back of the battery box. Just undo the wing nuts and slides up to give clearance to get battery out if needed.
It took me probably... 4 major incidents stuck on the side of the road in all kinds of weather before a very old biker took one look at it and suggested the bracket.
Since then ive probably riden a good 60 + hours without issue!
The boys at High Octane are very genuine and very professional. They are seriously good to use even if you were to move on from Hunter.
