So my wife and I are considering a trip to the Hunter valley for a weekend to celebrate our first anniversary in a couple of months, and of course my first thought was "what an awesome ride that would be".
Cruising around the vineyards on my Spyder would be pretty cool, though before we do the trip I'd like to be sure the bike would actually MAKE it there. Since buying it, I've been taking it along roads in Sydney where the speed limit is 100, and even though i'm still on my L's and restricted to 90, the bike seems to be screaming its ass off even sitting at around 85. Obviously, the last thing I wanna do is overheat my engine on a road trip that'll take 2-3 hours.
I'd also like to be able to ride up from Sydney to Grafton in around 6 months, so again I'd like to make sure the bike will actually survive the trip and I won't find myself stranded and waiting for roadside assistance for 6 hours in the middle of nowhere.
I've no problem pulling over for 15-20 mins at a time to take a break every hour, so really I'm just wondering if anyone has done a ride on a 250 Spyder at a sustained 90kph or more for at least an hour and how it holds up.

I have a 350 so I get up to 130-140km/h so it means I wouldn't have a problem at 100/110 or so. Perhaps someone with a 250 has a better idea on how it would go at top speed for a long time.

As long as it can maintain 90kph for an hour at a time without a danger of overheating the engine I'll be fine. Long distance riding being more taxing on the body and mind than driving, my plan is always to ride for an hour then stop for 20 mins at a time, whether its a few hours to the hunter or 8 hours to Grafton.

Hey guys I personally don't think it will have a problem making it as long has it's serviced new oil , coolant ,spark plugs ect.
I would personally change the rear sprocket so the engine Isn't under as much load.
If your thinking of doubling your partner them maybe I would give it some more thought before taking such a long journey.

The bike will be fine. The mrs maybe not. As much as we might pride ourselves on being able to punish our respective ladies behind's , there's not many that will go 3 hours on the back. I've actually only ever ridden a hunter for 2 hours straight, but a young fella I know rides his from geraldton to Perth and back two weekends in a row. ( he was in love). It's about 1000 Kay round trip.

Thanks for the tips guys. Of course, it'll now be a while till I go riding anywhere at all since I dropped it for the third time in 2 weeks last night, except this time I wasn't so lucky and broke more than just the mirror (snapped my front brake lever and bent the throttle grip). The lever isn't so much an issue as it looks easy to replace provided I can find one that fits, however having no idea how to change the throttle grip its looking like it'll be a job for a mechanic. I really friggin hate our steep driveway sometimes...

Naturally I've been to 5 different stores today looking for a new brake lever. Think I can find one that fits? Or even a single person who's even HEARD of Hunter motorcycles in Sydney? Apparently finding replacement parts for my pretty new bike is going to be next to impossible.

Hunter carry more parts than most of the big companies. Try your closest Hunter dealer first, yours is Maverick. If they can't help contact us directly. Parts@huntermotorcycles.com.au Sorry to hear about your spill mate. Hope we can get you back on the road quick smart.

On a side note, I think Maverick has actually closed down or moved and not updated their info. I tried calling their listed number a while back to find it disconnected, and there isn't a single post on their Facebook page that isn't really old.

So I must of been having coffee with Dale's ghost this morning at an invisible Maverick motorcycles. What a bunch of shit ya wanker.

Seriously?

Hi. I'm considering buying a 2012 spyder for work commute and riding on weekend trips before purchasing i need to know this is no issue for these bikes. Can someone help me out with if this is something these Nike's can be completely trusted with?
